Down 14-0 at halftime

At least the defense came to play -- until the last minute when poor clock management by the offense set up an Oregon touchdown in what was looking like a manageable game. But the offense has been pitiful. Was it because I wore a green shirt this morning? Hope Norm Chow can turn things around in the locker room.

The only u-turn Norm should be making is the one that gets him back to South LA. If you drop his and Pete's first year they went 36-3. With the Titans he was 22-26. He went from Carson Palmer, Matt Leinart and Vince Young to Kevin Craft. I wish he was still with SC.

Mike, I suspect that before long -- not this year and maybe not even next but before too long -- you will really wish Norm Chow was back at USC. Pete Carroll is a great coach and USC is a great football school (my father did his graduate work there so I have never been able to bring myself to hate the place). But the Trojans have shown some vulnerabilities this year, not only against Oregon State but against Arizona State, despite the final score. We'll have another great QB at UCLA in due time, and then look out.

I hope so. Let's go back to the 60's. Beban and OJ, fighting for the national championship in So Cal.
I don't know if SC is missing something or not. The Pac 10 has found a way to beat SC every year. They dominate outside the conference. Even when they winning those games with Norm, they were lucky sometimes. UCLA, Fresno State, Notre Dame. It's just hard to win every game, as was on display last week. Will Texas beat Missouri? It's fun to watch.

Am I getting old? Those were the days, weren't they? Even through much of the '70s, you could throw out the previous records and have a pretty good idea that either team could take it. Lately (aside from that 13-9 anomaly a couple of years ago) it's been fairly predictable.

Here's something to think about, Norm was a offensive lineman. Picture him up in the booth, you think db, wide out, no, offensive line, as you were, back in the day. I was born in 51, we were lucky, most of us. Now I don't know. Fight On, right? It's all we can do. Glory days. They were good then. Their good now. Blank it.
