Pakistan on the edge

Here's a link to the Register's editorial on the attack on the Red Mosque in Islamabad and some of its implications. If I do say so, a fair amount of background on the divisions and stresses that make Pakistan virtually ungovernable (not that I have much residual sympathy for Musharraf). In the aftermath, secularists have cheered the action and religious fundamentalists have denounced it. No earthshaking consequences yet (though I haven't checked the wires tonight), but they could come soon.
